Sandra Middlebrook Kenley passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026
surrounded by her immediate family at her Wesley Court home in Abilene, TX. A remembrance gathering will be held Saturday, May 2, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Atrium at Wesley Court Senior Living.
Sandy was born on September 27, 1943, in Anson, Texas to P.B and Lucille Middlebrook. She grew up with eleven brothers and sisters. Sandy retired as a Flight Attendant with United Airlines. Alongside her professional life, she was deeply devoted to her family and raised three children, Anson, Amy, and Katie. She was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Mason Chavez, Autumn and Austin Kenley, and Pike and Brynn Schmerbeck.
Sandy designated herself as the "Favorite Child" among her siblings. She would get a mischievous grin when she e-mailed her brothers and sisters and then waited for the barrage of resentful returns telling her that she was in NO WAY the favorite child.
Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, P.B. Middlebrook Jr., Bradley Middlebrook, and Johnny Middlebrook, her sisters, Jeanie Bryant and Dolris Dean, and her niece, Jean Dean. Sandy was deeply loved by all who knew her and is survived by her husband, Dan Kenley, her children, Anson and Angie Kenley, Amy and Rob Schmerbeck, Katie and Armando Chavez, her grandchildren and her brothers, Charlie Middlebrook, Sid Middlebrook, and Shannon Middlebrook, and sisters, Sally Booth, Brownie McKnight, and Valencia Lane.
Sandy was a member of the Truby Church of Christ.
In accordance with her wishes, Sandra's body was donated to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Willed Body Program.
A healthy Jones County requires great community news.
