Glena Dawn Hicks
March 11, 1957 – January 20, 2026
Glena Dawn Hicks, a longtime resident of Hawley, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on March 11, 1957, in Breckenridge, Texas, Glena was known by all for her fearless spirit and unconventional approach to life.
In her younger years, Glena forged a path as unique as her personality. She worked in demanding oilfield roles, from drilling and placing dynamite to working as a roustabout. Her jobs saw her behind the wheel of dump trucks and operating heavy equipment, demonstrating a grit that defined her. A lifelong animal lover, she also spent many years training horses, sharing a deep and intuitive bond with them.
Beyond her work, Glena was a woman of vibrant passions. She found joy in creating artwork and on the open road. She was often seen cruising Texas highways on her Harley Davidson or driving her favorite Chevrolet truck. Glena and her late husband, Terry Taillon, shared countless "misadventures" together on their Harley until his passing from cancer in 2020. Friends will fondly remember her sharp wit, her independent lifestyle, and her occasional enjoyment of tequila.
Glena was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Terry Taillon, and her parents, Glen and Dorothy Whitaker. She is survived by her two sons, Todd Gilmore and Cody Gilmore, and her cherished grandchildren, Lily and John Gilmore.
Her legacy of independence and adventure will live on in the stories told by those who knew and loved her.
Cody and Todd want to give a heartfelt thank you to the in-laws that loved and cared for her, the community that supported her and the pastor and members of the Grace and Mercy Church.
